Carlson, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, as the winner of the Calendar Year 2017 Colonel Justice Marion "Jumping Joe" Chambers Award for Outstanding Leadership. Captain Carlson was selected by a board of field grade officers from Marine Forces Reserve commands after thorough deliberation among nominees with exemplary leadership records.

1. In accordance with reference (a), Captain Samuel C. Carlson is to be congratulated as the selected recipient of the Calendar Year (CY) 2017 Chambers Award for Outstanding Leadership. Captain Carlson is assigned to 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division. 2. Captain Carlson was selected after thorough deliberation by a board of field grade officers from commands across Marine Forces Reserve. CY 2017 nominees had exemplary records which indicate noteworthy leadership and ability. 3.
