Increased Meritorious Promotions for Active Duty Sergeants

This MARADMIN announces an increase in meritorious promotion allocations for active duty corporals to sergeant, effective April 1, 2021. Commands are now authorized to meritoriously promote up to 0.5% of onboard corporals quarterly (not exceeding 2% annually), supporting the Commandant's talent management initiatives to advance high-performing Marines.

1.  Meritorious promotions play a prominent role in CMC talent management initiatives by allowing commanders to select high performers for early advancement through the meritorious promotion process. <br>
2.  This Marine Administrative Message (MARADMIN) serves as an update to reference (a) and announces allocation increases for active component meritorious promotions to sergeant.<br>
2.a.  Effective 1 April 2021, meritorious promotion allocations to sergeant as outlined in par 4103.2 of reference (a), are hereby modified. <br>
2.b.  The quarterly promotion allocations for onboard corporals to be meritoriously promoted to the rank of sergeant has been increased.  Commands are authorized to meritoriously promote not more than one half of one percent of the corporals on the 2nd day of the fiscal quarter (October, January, April, and July).<br>
2.c.  Allocations will not exceed two percent annually of onboard corporals.   <br>
2.d.  Excess fractions will not be carried over if one or more promotions result from the quarterly computation.<br>
3.  This MARADMIN is not applicable to the Marine Corps Reserve.<br>
