Inaugural Manpower Modernization Challenge Results

1.  In accordance with reference (a), the Deputy Commandant for Manpower & Reserve Affairs is pleased to announce the results of the Inaugural Manpower Modernization Challenge.  This challenge asked Marines and civilians from across the Marine Corps to provide non-monetary innovative recommendations to improve retention.  During the challenge, more than 700 submissions were received and showcased the exceptional talent and ingenious thinking within our Force.  Examples included allowing Marines to attend career-enhancing courses, improved transparency in the assignments process, creating flexibility in the current leave and liberty policies, and modernizing barracks and chow halls.
2.  Manpower Modernization Challenge Results.
2.a.  The voting panel has selected a collaborative submission from Marines assigned to Battalion Landing Team 2/6 as the winner of the Inaugural Manpower Modernization Challenge.  The team's proposal satisfied all evaluating criteria.
2.b.  The winning submission.  A Marine, in the rank of Corporal, who executes a reenlistment is eligible for promotion to Sergeant prior to reaching 48 months time in service if the Marine meets all other promotion requirements.
2.c.  Manpower and Reserve Affairs will coordinate further development of this concept for potential inclusion into the Human Resource Development Process.

2.e.  In addition, the authors of the winning submission will receive a letter from the Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs recognizing their participation in the Manpower Modernization Challenge and congratulating them for their efforts to improve current manpower processes.
3.  We appreciate each Marine and civilian who dedicated personal time to participate in this Manpower Modernization Challenge.  The collective submissions in this challenge are commendable and have inspired meaningful and warranted discussion regarding improvements in the Human Resource Development Process.  The Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs thanks you for your participation and encourages continued participation in future Manpower Modernization Challenges.
