0399 Master Gunnery Sergeant Operations Chief Slate 1-23
This MARADMIN announces the results of the 0399 Master Gunnery Sergeant Operations Chief Slate 1-23, which selected three Master Gunnery Sergeants for key billet assignments at II MEF, 31st MEU, and 13th MEU. The slating board, convened on March 1, 2023, served as a proof of concept for a new standardized and transparent process for senior enlisted infantry key billet assignments, with tentative assignment dates ranging from January to June 2024.

1. On 1 March 2023, the Branch Head of MMEA convened the 0399 key-billet slating board. The purpose of this board was to serve as a proof of concept to determine how MMEA would standardize senior enlisted key billet assignments. Over the last 12 months, MMEA, in-coordination with the infantry occupational field specialist and senior FMF and Supporting Establishment infantry leaders, has assessed that to place the most competitive 0399 in the right billet, a more professional and transparent slating process was required. One Colonel and nine 0399 Master Gunnery Sergeants screened the records of eight 0399 Master Gunnery Sergeants for three billets.<br> 2. The board selected three 0399 Master Gunnery Sergeants for three billets.<br> 3. The quality of the Marines considered reaffirms that the infantry community continues to produce and promote leaders of the highest quality. A competitive assignment process, that directly enhances the warfighting effectiveness of the unit, is a critical requirement to ensure MMEA assigns the right Marine, to the right billet, at the right time.<br> 4.
