Update to Portuguese Foreign Language Proficiency Validation

This MARADMIN announces the release of a new Portuguese Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT 5) Lower Range Reading Comprehension test effective 17 April 2017, which replaces separate tests for Portuguese Brazilian and Portuguese European. Marines' scores from this new test will combine with their Listening Comprehension scores to validate proficiency for all official uses, including Foreign Language Proficiency Bonus eligibility.

1.  Ref (a) announces the publication of a new Portuguese Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT 5) Lower Range Reading Comprehension (RC) test, which will go into effect on 17 April 2017.  This new test consists of a singular RC test that replaces both DLPT IV Lower Range RC tests in Portuguese Brazilian and Portuguese European.<br>
2.  In accordance with refs (b) through (d), beginning on 17 April 2017, Marines' scores from the Portuguese DLPT 5 Lower Range RC test will combine with their scores from the Portuguese Brazilian and/or Portuguese European DLPT 5 Lower Range Listening Comprehension test to validate proficiency for all official uses, including the Foreign Language Proficiency Bonus (FLPB).  Refs (c) and (d) still require Marines to meet proficiency criteria in two modalities to qualify for FLPB, and to be paid FLPB for both Portuguese Brazilian and Portuguese European simultaneously, if they meet the eligibility requirements in ref (d).<br>
3.  This MARADMIN is applicable to the Marine Corps Total Force.<br>
