Career Opportunities for Enlisted Marines with Primary Military Occupational (PMOS) 1181 and 4067 (Corrected Copy)
This MARADMIN announces the cancellation of Primary Military Occupational Specialties (PMOS) 1181 (Fabric Repair) and 4067 (Programmer) effective October 1, 2005, affecting approximately 200 enlisted Marines. The Marine Corps will provide lateral move opportunities, retraining, and career transition options to all affected active duty and reserve Marines who wish to continue their service, with specific pathways outlined based on duty status, rank, and time in service.

1. PURPOSE. TO ANNOUNCE THE CANCELLATION OF AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES WHICH EXIST FOR MARINES WITH PMOS 1181 AND 4067. 2. BACKGROUND. DC I&L AND DIR C4 NO LONGER REQUIRE FABRIC REPAIR AND PROGRAMMER CAPABILITIES. AS OF 1 OCT 2005, THERE WILL NO LONGER BE A MANPOWER REQUIREMENT FOR PMOS 1181 AND 4067. 3. THERE ARE CURRENTLY APPROXIMATELY 200 ENLISTED MARINES WHO POSSESS THESE SKILLS. FOR EACH MARINE WHO DESIRES TO REMAIN ON ACTIVE DUTY, THE MARINE CORPS WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO MEET THE MARINE'S LATERAL MOVE (LAT MOVE) CHOICE, PROVIDE TRAINING INTO ANOTHER JOB SPECIALTY, AND PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLETE 20 YEARS OF SERVICE. THIS MARADMIN PRESENTS CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THESE MARINES AND PLACES MARINES WITH THESE SKILLS INTO ONE OF FIVE CATEGORIES: A. ACTIVE DUTY FIRST TERM MARINES WITH AN END OF ACTIVE SERVICE (EAS) IN FY05. B. ACTIVE DUTY FIRST TERM MARINES WITH AN EAS IN FY06 AND BEYOND. C. ACTIVE DUTY CAREER MARINES IN THE GRADES OF CORPORAL OR SERGEANT. D. ACTIVE DUTY CAREER MARINES IN THE GRADES OF STAFF SERGEANT AND ABOVE. E. RESERVE MARINES. 4. (3) LAT MOVES REQUIRE A 2 YEAR OBLIGATION UPON COMPLETION OF TRAINING. MARINES MAY HAVE TO EXTEND IN ORDER TO MEET THE 2 YEAR POST TRAINING OBLIGATION. (4) MARINES WHO CHOOSE TO REMAIN IN PMOS 1181 OR 4067 CAN EXPECT TO REMAIN ON ACTIVE DUTY UNTIL FMCR ELIGIBLE. ONCE FMCR ELIGIBLE, MARINES MUST RETIRE AT EAS OR SERVICE LIMITS WHICHEVER COMES FIRST. (5) SPECIAL DUTY ASSIGNMENTS WILL PROVIDE THE GREATEST OPPORTUNITY FOR PROMOTION. E. RESERVE MARINES WITH A PRIMARY MOS OF 1181 OR 4067 MAY ELECT ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CAREER TRANSITION OPTIONS BASED ON RESERVE CATEGORY: (1) MEMBERS OF SELECTED MARINE CORPS RESERVE (SMCR) UNITS. (A) MARINES POSSESSING AN ADDITIONAL MOS (AMOS) RATED AT THEIR RUC FOR WHICH A VACANCY EXISTS MAY REMAIN AT THAT RUC AND FILL THE BILLET VACANCY. APPROPRIATE UNIT DIARY ENTRIES WILL BE MADE CHANGING THE AMOS TO PMOS. (B) MARINES MAY RETRAIN TO A MOS VACANCY AT THEIR CURRENT RUC AS LONG AS THEY MEET THE MOS REQUIREMENTS (LESS FORMAL SCHOOLS) OUTLINED IN REF A. MARINES WILL CONTACT MARFORRES (G3) TRAINING NLT 1 JULY 2004 TO DISCUSS RETRAINING OPTIONS. (C) MARINES WILLING TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER RESERVE UNIT MAY HAVE ADDITIONAL RETRAINING OPTIONS. MARINES CONSIDERING AN INTER-UNIT TRANSFER (IUT) WILL CONTACT CMC (CMT) FOR CAREER COUNSELING AND COORDINATE TRANSFER VIA THE CHAIN OF COMMAND. IUT MOS RETRAINING WILL QUALIFY FOR PRIOR SERVICE TRAINING ASSIGNMENT (PSTA) PROGRAM FUNDING AND SCHOOL SEAT ASSIGNMENT. PSTA RETRAINING WILL BE COORDINATED WITH CMC (RAP) VIA A PRIOR SERVICE RECRUITER AT TIME OF ACCESSION TO A GAINING UNIT. (D) MARINES NOT WILLING TO RETRAIN MUST TRANSFER TO THE INDIVIDUAL READY RESERVE (IRR). EARLY RELEASE FROM DRILLING OBLIGATION IS AUTHORIZED. (2) MEMBERS OF THE INDIVIDUAL MOBILIZATION AUGMENTEE (IMA) PROGRAM. (A) IMA MARINES MAY REMAIN IN THEIR CURRENT BILLET UNTIL TOUR EXPIRATION DATE. TOUR EXTENSION REQUESTS WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. (B) IMA MARINES POSSESSING AN AMOS RATED AT A COMMAND FOR WHICH A VACANT FUNDED BILLET EXISTS MAY REMAIN AT THAT COMMAND AND FILL THE BILLET VACANCY. APPROPRIATE UNIT DIARY ENTRIES WILL BE MADE CHANGING THE AMOS TO PMOS. (C) OPERATIONAL SPONSORS DESIRING TO RETAIN AN IMA MARINE, BUT IN A DIFFERENT BILLET, MAY OFFER RETRAINING AS A CONDITION OF ASSIGNMENT TO A SUBSEQUENT IMA TOUR. FUNDING FOR RETRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE OPERATIONAL SPONSOR. (D) IMA MARINES WILL TRANSFER TO THE IRR UPON COMPLETION OF THEIR CURRENT TOUR. IMA MEMBERS MAY RECEIVE MOS RETRAINING AS A CONDITION OF SMCR UNIT AFFILIATION VIA THE PSTA PROGRAM. INDIVIDUALS SHOULD CONTACT THEIR LOCAL PRIOR SERVICE RECRUITER CONCERNING SMCR UNIT AFFILIATION/PSTA RETRAINING OPTIONS.
