FY16/FY17 Naval School of Music Training Seats
This MARADMIN announces available training seats for FY16/FY17 at the Naval School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Three seats are available for the Senior Musician Course (September 2016 - May 2017) and six seats for the Music Unit Leader Course (January 2017 - August 2017). Nominations for both courses must be submitted by May 16, 2016.

This message announces available training seats for Marines to attend courses of instruction at the Naval School of Music aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia Beach, Virginia. This message is provided as a planning tool for commands to nominate Marines for attendance. 2. Senior Musician Course (SMC) CID N0355K2. A. This course provides instruction on rehearsing and conducting ceremonial bands, concert bands and jazz ensembles, analyzing advanced music, writing musical arrangements, managing non-musical support for performances, and capabilities and operations of a Marine Corps band. B. Prerequisite. Must have a 5524 Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), be a graduate of the Music Unit Leader course, and have a letter of recommendation from a Band Officer (5502) or acting Band Officer, and a letter of recommendation from a Bandmaster (5524) or acting Bandmaster. C. Class schedule. 1. Report date is 16 September 2016. 2. Convene date is 19 September 2016. 3. Graduation date is 9 May 2017. D. Available seats: 3. E. In accordance with Ref (a), this course is a prerequisite for selection to Band Officer (5502). F. All nominations will be submitted to Office of U.S. Marine Corps Communication (OUSMCC) (PAC-20) no later than (NLT) 2359 EST 16 May 2016. In the event more nominations are received than seats available, a selection panel will convene on or about 23 May 2016 to determine the most qualified applicants for attendance. 3. Music Unit Leader Course (ULC) CID N0355L2. A. This course includes rehearsing and conducting ceremonial bands, performing the duties of Drum Major for ceremonial bands, rehearsing and conducting contemporary music ensembles, analyzing and writing advanced music, and performing technical/non-musical support for performances. B. Prerequisite. Must have a 5524 MOS and a letter of recommendation from a Band Officer (5502) or acting Band Officer and a letter of recommendation froma Bandmaster (5524) or acting Bandmaster. C. Class schedule. 1. Report date is 4 January 2017. 2. Convene date is 9 January 2017. 3. Graduation date is 9 August 2017. D. Available seats: 6. E. In accordance with ref (a), this course is a prerequisite for selection to Enlisted Conductor (5519), Drum Major (5521) or Small Ensemble Leader (5522). F. All nominations will be submitted to OUSMCC (PAC-20) NLT 2359 EST16 May 2016. In the event more nominations are received than seats available, a selection panel will convene on or about 23 May 2016 to determine the most qualified applicants for attendance. 4.
