Marine Corps Drug Testing Program Amplifying Guidance

This MARADMIN provides updated guidance for the Marine Corps Drug Testing Program regarding the review of positive prescription urinalysis results. It establishes a default 6-month expiration date for prescription medications without specified expiration dates, in accordance with revised DoD policy for controlled substances listed in Schedules II through V.

1.  This MARADMIN provides updated guidance for Medical Officer and Commanding Officer review for positive prescription urinalysis drug testing results based on the newly revised reference (a).
2.  For Marine Corps Substance Abuse Program drug testing purposes, a default expiration date of 6 months will be used as indicated in reference (a) for prescription medications that do not have an expiration date.  Reference (a) states, "Absent a specified time period when prescribed, prescriptions for substances included on Schedules II through V of Section 812 of Title 21, United States Code, will be considered expired 6 months after the most recent date of filling, as indicated on the prescription label.  For example, a prescription with a fill date of August 14th will be considered expired after February 14th of the following year."
3.  This MARADMIN is applicable to the Active Component and members of the Selected Marine Corps Reserve.
