FY 2020 Major General W.P.T. Hill Memorial Award Winners for Unit Competition and Food Service Specialist of the Year
This MARADMIN announces the FY 2020 Major General W.P.T. Hill Memorial Award winners for unit food service competition and Food Service Specialist of the Year. Winners include mess halls from MCAS Iwakuni and Camp Pendleton, a reserve field mess from Fort Devens, and individual food service specialists across active duty and reserve components. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Best Active Field Mess category was not judged and recognition ceremonies are postponed.

1. The Major General W.P.T. Hill Memorial Awards competition encourages excellence in garrison and field food service. The competitive spirit fostered by the Major General W.P.T. Hill awards program contributes to improved food service excellence and increased quality of life for our Marines and Sailors. Commands participating in this year's competition and Marines nominated for the Food Service Specialist of the Year Award are commended for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence. 2. The Commandant extends congratulations to the following winning mess halls and field messes: 2.A. Best Management and Mess Attendant Mess Hall: Mess Hall 1562, MCIPAC-MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. 2.B. Best Full Food Service Mess Hall: Mess Hall 2204, MCIWEST-MCB Camp Pendleton, California. 2.C. Best Active Field Mess: Due to restricted travel as a result of COVID-19 pandemic, there will not be an announcement for Best Field Mess category. 2.D. Best Reserve Field Mess: 25th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division, Fort Devens, Massachusetts. 2.E. Details on Command recognition and trophy shipment to winning commands will be provided via separate correspondence. 3. We are pleased to announce the recipients of the Food Service Specialist of the Year Award. Their professionalism, commitment to excellence, devotion to duty, and technical expertise reflected great credit upon themselves, the food service community, and engendered a lasting contribution to the Marine Corps. 3.A. Active duty Staff Non-Commissioned Officer winner: 3.A.1. GySgt Christopher T. Hamilton 3.A.2. Food Service Formal Learning Center, Weapons Training Battalion, Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Lee, Virginia. 3.B. Active duty Non-Commissioned Officer winner: 3.B.1. Sgt Taylor J. Dagostino 3.B.2. 2d Tank Battalion, 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. 3.C. Reserve Non-Commissioned Officer winner: 3.C.1. Cpl Evan W. Owens 3.C.2. Food Service Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 45, Smyrna, GA 4. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation Military Food Service Training Program event and the annual Advance Culinary Training event are cancelled.
