Update to Chinese-Cantonese Foreign Language Proficiency Validation

This MARADMIN announces the release of a new Chinese-Cantonese Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT 5) Lower Range Listening Comprehension test, effective 30 May 2017, which replaces the previous DLPT IV test. For proficiency validation and Foreign Language Proficiency Bonus eligibility, Chinese-Cantonese DLPT 5 LC scores will now combine with Chinese-Mandarin DLPT 5 Reading Comprehension scores.

1.  Ref (a) announces the publication of a new Chinese-Cantonese Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT 5) Lower Range Listening Comprehension (LC) test, which will go into effect on 30 May 2017. This new test replaces the DLPT IV LC test and phases out the DLPT IV Reading Comprehension (RC) test for Chinese-Cantonese.<br>
2.  Per ref (a), beginning on 30 May 2017, scores from the Chinese-Cantonese DLPT 5 Lower Range LC test will combine with scores from the Chinese-Mandarin DLPT 5 Lower Range Reading Comprehension test to validate proficiency for all official purposes, including the Foreign Language Proficiency Bonus (FLPB) in accordance with refs (b) through (d).  Refs (c) and (d) still require Marines to meet proficiency criteria in two modalities to qualify for FLPB, and allows for payment of FLPB for both Chinese-Cantonese and Chinese-Mandarin simultaneously, if they meet the eligibility requirements in ref (d).<br>
3.  This MARADMIN is applicable to the Marine Corps Total Force.<br>
