Fiscal Year 2017 Active Reserve (AR) Drill Instructor (DI) Screening

This MARADMIN announces the Fiscal Year 2017 screening process for Active Reserve (AR) Marines interested in serving as Drill Instructors. Due to limited allocations, Reserve Affairs will select two primary and two alternate male applicants to attend DI school in FY17, with applications due by 31 August 2016.

1.  This message solicits applications from AR Marines interested in special duty assignment (SDA) as a DI.  Due to the limited number of allocations, and the large number of requests from Marines desiring this challenging duty, Reserve Affairs will select two primary and two alternate male applicants for fiscal year 2017 (FY17).  The selected Marines will attend DI school in FY17.  Alternates will be used only if primary selectees are unavailable.
2.  Eligibility requirements:
    a.  Sergeants regardless of time in grade.
    b.  Staff sergeants having less than 24 months time in grade by 1 October 2016
    c.  Completed initial tour on the AR program.
    d.  At least 24 months time on station by 1 October 2016.
    e.  Completed appropriate professional military education for grade.
    f.  Prior drill instructors are not eligible to apply.
3.  Interested Marines must apply through their career planner.  Submit applications via SDA request through the Total Force Retention System (TFRS) to HQMC (RAM SDA) NLT 2359 EST, 31 August 2016.  Per reference (a), packages not submitted by the deadline or failing to meet the minimum requirements will be returned without action.
4.  The TFRS request must include the following:
    a.  O-5 level command endorsement.
    b.  Current photograph in accordance with reference (b).
    c.  Drill instructor checklist in accordance with reference (c).
    d.  Commanding Officers financial checklist per reference (d).
5.  DI duty assignments for Marines selected will be published via separate correspondence.
6.  This MARADMIN supersedes guidance from previous screenings.
