2020 Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Symposium

This MARADMIN announces the 2020 Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Symposium (SMMCS-20) to be held August 4-7, 2020, at The Clubs at Quantico, Virginia. The symposium invites senior enlisted leaders including Sergeants Major, Master Gunnery Sergeants, and Command Master Chiefs from major Marine Corps commands, along with their spouses. Force Level Sergeants Major and selectees are invited to attend an additional Force Level Summit on August 2-3, 2020, prior to the main symposium.

1. The Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps (SMMC) will host the 2020 Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Symposium (SMMCS-20) from 4 August to 7 August 2020 at The Clubs at Quantico; Quantico, VA. Travel days are 3 August and 8 August 2020 for CONUS travelers, 2-3 August and 8-9 August 2020 for OCONUS travelers, with a no-host ice breaker on the evening of 3 August 2020.<br>

6.  The SMMC office exercises overall staff cognizance for SMMCS-20 and is the information releasing authority for SMMCS-20.  The Director, Special Projects Directorate (SPD), provides direct support to the SMMC office and is responsible for logistical, administrative, and the operations support center for SMMCS-20. Points of contact (POC) for the SMMC office are in paragraph 14.a. and SPD are contained in paragraph 14.b.<br>
7.  In the event the SMMCS-20 is cancelled or postponed to a later date, guidance will be provided through separate correspondence.<br>
8.  Detailed programs for both principals and spouses are being developed and will be promulgated separately.<br>
9.  Tasks. <br>
9.a. Invited SgtsMaj, MGySgts, and CMDCMs that cannot attend the Symposium/Summit are required to provide justification to SMMC via email.<br>
9.b. Invited SgtsMaj, MGySgts, and CMDCMs are required to submit a visitors request via the Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS) with the security management office code MS51223; the POC for this request is Mr. Dean M. Edwards edwards@mcia.osis.gov; (703) 784-6242.  Top Secret clearance is required to attend classified briefs.<br>
10. Administration and Logistics.<br>
10.a. SMMCS-20 will be held at The Clubs at Quantico in Quantico, Virginia.  More information about administration, logistics and registration, including a one-stop registration website which reduces the time and effort necessary to register, will be provided through an administrative/logistics message via email.<br>
10.b.  Orders.  Individual commands in USMC billets will fund and issue orders for their attendees. Travel orders for principals assigned to non-USMC commands, please contact Mr. Randy Kowski at randy.kowski@usmc.mil 703-693-2821 to coordinate Line of Accounting, or for funding issues. All orders should be non-reporting.  Government quarters and messing are not available.  Rental vehicle is authorized.<br>
10.c.  Transportation.  Government transportation will be provided for all official functions.<br>
10.d.  Financial.  A non-reimbursable fee will be collected from all attendees participating in the SMMCS-20.  This fee covers the costs associated with catered meals, refreshments and social events on the official schedule.  This cost is not reimbursable on travel claims and the cost of the meals is covered for attendees on travel orders through per diem.  The preferred method of payment is through the online registration process.  Alternate method of payment:  mail fees to the address provided below or hand deliver to Pentagon Room 2C252A no later than 17 July 2020.  Checks payable to "Special Events Fund" should be mailed to: Special Projects Directorate, HQMC, P.O. Box 25272, Arlington, VA, 22202-9272.  Due to the requirement for SPD to pre-arrange catering, RSVP'ing for this event obligates the attendee to the amount due (no adjustments will be made after 17 July 2020).<br>
11.  Uniforms.  For principals, the required uniforms and civilian clothing are green MARPAT, Dress Blue "B" with white trousers (Full Dress Whites for Navy personnel), Business Attire that includes Business Suit, and Business Casual. For civilians/spouses, the required attire is Business Attire (Business Suit, Skirt Suit or Dress) and Business Casual (Slacks or Skirt, Button Up Shirt or Blouse). It is also recommended wearing layers and pack a shawl or sweater, as briefing room temperatures tend to vary and wearing nice, comfortable shoes.<br>
12.  Weather.  The average temperatures for the Washington, D.C. area in August is 85 degrees (high) and 66 (low), with humidity around 67 percent.  The average rainfall in August is 3.4 inches.<br>
13.  SMMCS-20 Operations Center<br>
13.a. The Operations Center will be set up to provide appropriate administrative and logistical support to all attendees.  Personnel and resources are assigned to the Operations Center according to known requirements based on the official agendas.<br>
13.b. The Operations Center will be located in the Clubs at Quantico.<br>
13.c.  Projected capabilities are:<br>
13.c.(1) Limited unclassified phone.<br>
13.c.(2) Unclassified fax.<br>
13.c.(3) NIPRNET e-mail.<br>
13.c.(4) Limited color/black and white copying.<br>
13.c.(5) The Operations center will provide and maintain NIPRNET workstations for SMMCS-20 attendees.<br>
13.c.(6) Briefings support: the Operations Center will be prepared to support all known briefers' requirements.  The normal organic audio-visual and information technology capabilities are available, which includes screens, projectors, video players, and laptops capable of using CDs.  If any briefer requires additional support, please contact Mr. Randy Kowski.<br>
13.d.  Operations Center limitations.  The Operations Center will have on-site capability for classified fax, SIPRNET email, and STU/STE phone.  The Operations Center will to provide any classified material support to include handling and storage.<br>
