Selection Message NPS Distance Learning AY 16-17
This MARADMIN announces the selection of 25 Marine officers for Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) Distance Learning programs for Academic Year 2016-17, including 7 officers for Advanced Degree programs and 18 officers for Certificate programs. The selection panel convened on June 10, 2016, and assessed candidates based on basic eligibility and academic coursework, with particular emphasis on mathematics and science courses.

1. The Distance Learning (DL) Panel convened on 10 June 2016 to select applicants for Advanced Degree DL and Certificate DL programs administered through Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), at Monterey, CA. Candidates were assessed on basic eligibility and academic coursework (specifically previous mathematics and science courses). Every reasonable accommodation was made to ensure Marine selections were aligned with desired curriculum. Marines who did not specify alternate programs were only considered for their primary program selection.<br> 2. 38 total Marines applied this year. While the Executive Masters of Business Administration remains the most competitive, the application data shows a growing interest in Systems Analysis and Engineering. Selected officers must contact the admission office at NPS immediately upon notification and ensure the participation agreement is signed and submitted. These demanding programs require substantial time commitments in and out of the virtual classroom. Most programs contain synchronous courses that require participation at specific times. Matriculation fees, textbooks, education materials, and all other similar fees will be borne by the student. Program commencement is subject to availability of funds.<br> 5.
