Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI), Family SGLI (FSGLI), and Veterans' Group Life Insurance (VGLI) Premium Rate Reductions Effective 1 July 2025
This MARADMIN announces premium rate reductions for Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) and Family SGLI (FSGLI) effective 1 July 2025. SGLI premiums will decrease from $0.06 to $0.05 per $1,000 of coverage, reducing maximum coverage costs from $30 to $25 monthly, while FSGLI premiums will be reduced by 11-22% depending on age bracket. No action is required from service members as the discounted premiums will be automatically applied to their pay.

1. Purpose. To inform all Marines of upcoming premium rate reductions for Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) and Family Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (FSGLI). 2. SGLI Premium Reduction. Beginning 1 July 2025, all SGLI policyholders will receive a premium rate reduction from $0.06 to $0.05 per $1,000 of coverage per reference (a). 2.a. This change reduces the monthly premium for maximum coverage ($500,000) from $30 to $25. 2.b. Including the $1 monthly Traumatic Injury Protection fee, the total monthly cost for maximum coverage will be $26, saving Marines up to $60 annually. 2.c. No action is required. Discounted premiums will automatically be deducted from the Service Members' pay. 3. FSGLI Premium Reduction. Beginning July 1, 2025, all FSGLI members will see a premium discount at all age brackets, ranging from 11 percent to 22 percent. Most of those insured will see a discount of approximately 13 percent per reference (a). 3.a. Discounted rates will automatically reflect on Leave and Earnings Statements based on spousal age in Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System. 3.b. No action is required from the Service Member. 4. Review and Enrollment. Service Members are encouraged to review SGLI and FSGLI elections via the SGLI Online Enrollment System (SOES) on milConnect via https://milconnect.dmdc.osd.mil. 5. As required by reference (b), Commanders will ensure their Marines make an election in SOES upon joining the unit, review/update of the Record of Emergency Data, reenlistment, at the request of the Marine, request for accelerated benefits, prior to deployment, upon activation/mobilization or permanent change of station and prior to appellate leave or separation. 6.
