HQMC Semper Fit Seeks Applications for the 2017 All-Marine Male and Female Athlete of the Year
HQMC Semper Fit is seeking nominations for the 2017 All-Marine Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards. Commanding Officers at Lieutenant Colonel level or higher may nominate Marines who have excelled in amateur athletic competitions and meet all Marine Corps standards. Nominations are due by October 15, 2017, with winners to be announced December 1, 2017.

1. The reference establishes DoD policy that the Military Services be appropriately represented at International Military Sports Council activities and in civilian national and international amateur sports competitions. It further directs Secretaries of the Military Departments to develop comprehensive sports programs that provide the opportunity for qualified Service members to prepare for and compete in authorized competitions on a voluntary basis. Under the auspices of this policy, the Marine Corps recognizes the Service's male and female Athletes-of-the-Year.<br> 2. Nomination Process. A Commanding Officer (Lieutenant Colonel command or higher) nominates a Marine for Athlete-of-the-Year and forwards the nomination to the local installation MCCS athletic director for endorsement. For installations without an athletic director, the command may forward the nomination directly to HQMC (MFS). The nomination form may be found on the Semper Fit sports website at www.usmc-mccs.org/services/fitness/all-marine-sports. Nominations may be scanned and emailed to mccssportsapps@usmc-mccs.org or faxed to 703-784-4125. A head and shoulder photograph must accompany all applications. High resolution electronic photographs are acceptable.<br> 3. Qualifications:<br> a. Athletic: Marines who have excelled in intramural, varsity, All-Marine, national, and international competitions are to be considered. Competitions must comply with amateur regulations within nationally recognized governing bodies (e.g., USA Volleyball) or affiliated organizations (e.g., amateur athletic union) within the United States Olympic Committee. Professional sports participation will not be considered per reference (a).<br> b. Marine Corps standards and requirements: Marines shall be in good standing and meet all required Marine Corps standards.<br> 4. All submissions are due to HQMC (MFS) NLT 15 OCT 2017. The selection of Male and Female 2017 Athletes of the Year will be announced on 1 Dec 2017. Athletes will be recognized at the Commandant's Combined Awards Ceremony held at MCB Quantico, VA on a date to be determined.<br> 5. Release authorized by BGen K. W.
