Issued: July 7, 2022
1. In accordance with references (a) and (b), Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC), Reserve Affairs (RA), has completed the screening of Marines for Special Duty Assignment (SDA) and Marine Combat Instructor (MCI) duty for FY23.
2. Duty and class assignments were made based on individual Marine preferences, commanding officer recommendations, individual qualifications, and projected vacancies in accordance with reference (b). The by-name list of approved assignments and qualified alternates is released to major commands via Total Force Retention System (TFRS). Unit career planners are responsible for the notification of assigned Marines.
3. Marines identified as alternates may be assigned throughout the FY based on Service needs. Alternates identified during the selection process will normally be retained on station until all primaries have successfully graduated the corresponding SDA courses.
4. HQMC will not normally accept deferrals and changes to duty assignment; however, consideration will be given in special circumstances. Additional instructions for requesting modifications are released via TFRS, available through unit career planners.
5. Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) and Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders will be released via separate correspondence. Per reference (c), upon arrival at Basic Prior Service Recruiters Course (BPSRC), Drill Instructor (DI) School, or MCI School, members must have in their possession: medical and dental records, command endorsed orders, and completed SDA screening checklist with recertification. Selected Marines who were screened by someone other than a Medical Officer (MO) during the initial screening must be screened by an MO prior to reporting to school.
6. In accordance with the references, once the approved Reenlistment Extension Lateral Moves (RELM) with designated class assignment is returned to the unit, Marines selected to attend SDA schools will have no more than 15 days to accept the obligated service. Those Marines who decline to gain the obligated service necessary for their assignment to an SDA will have their Expiration of Active Service (EAS) date adjusted to reflect the start date of the school they refused to attend.
7. Commanders must conduct recertification of selected Marines in accordance with reference (e) 60 days prior to the SDA class report date to ensure that the Marine is still qualified for the assigned SDA. If a Marine is found unqualified during that time, commanders must contact HQMC RA Reserve Affairs Management-2 (RAM-2) via TFRS NLT 45 calendar days prior to the class report date with the appropriate supporting documentation.
8. Questions concerning orders and report dates should be directed to the point of contact listed.
9. Release authorized by Major General M. S. Martin, Director, Reserve Affairs Division.
