Marine Corps General Officer Collar Grade Insignia

Effective January 1, 2025, the Marine Corps will transition to a new standard 5/8-inch star pin-on collar grade insignia for all general officers, replacing the current 9/16-inch insignia. General officers may continue wearing the current 9/16-inch insignia beyond the transition date if they are retiring or expected to be promoted within six months, but the obsolete Air Force/Army 5/8-inch star insignia may not be worn.

Issued: August 9, 2024
1. Per reference (a), effective 1 January 2025, the
Marine Corps 5/8-inch star pin-on general officer collar grade
insignia will be the standard size for all general officers. General
officers may continue to wear their current 9/16-inch star pin-on
collar grade insignia beyond the transition date if retiring or if
they are expected to be promoted within 6 months of the transition
date. Wear regulations, as published via reference (b), remain the
same, except the size description will be adjusted to read 5/8-inch
star insignia. The now obsolete Air Force/Army 5/8-inch star
insignia is not the same as the Marine Corps 5/8-inch star insignia
and may not be worn beyond the transition date.
