Awards Update
This MARADMIN provides updates to Marine Corps awards policy and authorizations since the last update in MARADMIN 127/22. It authorizes multiple unit awards including Joint Meritorious Unit Awards, Navy Unit Commendations, and Meritorious Unit Commendations for various Marine Corps units and time periods. The message also announces significant changes to eligibility criteria for the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (effective September 11, 2022) and the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal (effective July 1, 2022), and clarifies that Marine Barracks Washington, D.C. did not qualify for the Armed Forces Service Medal for the 2021 Presidential Inauguration.

MMMA-2 will run appropriate entries into the service member's record within 30 days of the release of this MARADMIN. 3. Armed Forces Service Medal (AFSM) 24Jun21-24Jun21 3.a After careful review of the eligibility criteria, HQMC determined that Marine Barracks Washington, D.C., did not deploy to the Area of Eligibility (AOE) and did not meet the fundamental criteria to be awarded the AFSM for the 2021 Presidential Inauguration. For those Marines who were awarded the AFSM, MMMA will report the deletion of the award via Unit Diary. 4. Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (GWOT-SM) 4.a Effective September 11, 2022, eligibility for the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal will be limited to Service members who directly serve in a designated military counter-terrorism (CT) operation (e.g., deployed on orders for a designated CT operation; directly supported a designated CT operation on a full-time basis while assigned to an organization conducting such a CT operation) for a minimum of 30 days (consecutive or non-consecutive). 5. Inherent Resolve Campain Medal (IRCM) 5.a Effective July 1, 2022, eligibility for the Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal is limited to the country of Syria, and its associated airspace and contiguous waters out to 12 nautical miles. 6. Ref A is no longer distributed. Instead, ref A is updated quarterly and maintained on the internet at www.marines.mil. 7. Release authorized by MajGen Michael J.
