FY17 Colonel Command Screening Board Results

This MARADMIN announces the results of the FY17 Colonel Command Screening Board, which convened on 11 July 2016 to select colonels for 61 operating and supporting establishment commands available from 1 June 2017 to 31 May 2018. The board selected 61 primary officers and 36 alternates from 179 eligible colonels, with primary selectees required to accept command by 15 August 2016 or submit declinations by 29 August 2016.

Issued: August 2, 2016
1. On 11 July 2016, the Commandant of the Marine Corps convened the FY17 Colonel Command Screening Board. The purpose of command screening is to ensure that Marines receive the best possible leadership and to provide all eligible officers with a fair and equitable opportunity to command. Nine general officers screened the records of 179 colonels and colonels (sel) for assignment to 61 operating/supporting establishment commands. Billets considered will become available during the period of 1 June 17 to 31 May 18.
2. The board selected 61 officers as primaries for command. To accommodate the assignment process and the availability of individual officers, 36 officers were selected as alternates and found eligible for command by the board. The alternate list provides an adequate number of officers to meet the command requirements should an officer decline command or otherwise be unable to take command.
3. The quality of the Marines considered reaffirms that the Corps continues to produce and promote leaders of the highest caliber. The relatively small number of command billets available and the large number of eligible officers combine to make command selection an exceptionally competitive process.
4. The Commandant of the Marine Corps has approved the following:
