FY19 Lieutenant Colonel Command Screening Board Results
This MARADMIN announces the results of the FY19 Lieutenant Colonel Command Screening Board, which convened on 9 July 2018. The board selected 144 officers as primary selectees for command assignments and 67 officers as alternates from 528 eligible lieutenant colonels and lieutenant colonels (select) for 144 operating/supporting establishment commands that will become available between 1 June 2019 and 31 May 2020.

1. On 9 July 2018, the Commandant of the Marine Corps convened the FY19 Lieutenant Colonel Command Screening Board. The purpose of command screening is to ensure that Marines receive the best possible leadership and to provide all eligible officers with a fair and equitable opportunity to command. Two general officers and seventeen colonels screened the records of 528 lieutenant colonels and lieutenant colonels (sel) for assignment to 144 operating/supporting establishment commands. Billets considered will normally become available during the period of 1 Jun 2019 to 31 May 2020. 2. The board selected 144 officers as primaries for command. To accommodate the assignment process and the availability of individual officers, 67 officers were selected as alternates and found eligible for command by the board. The alternate list provides an adequate number of officers to meet the command requirements should an officer decline command or otherwise be unable to take command. 3. The quality of the Marines considered reaffirms that the Corps continues to produce and promote leaders of the highest caliber. The relatively small number of command billets available and the large number of eligible officers combine to make command selection an exceptionally competitive process. 4. All officers selected as primaries and alternates for command will have a letter annotating selection included in their Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) by MMOA-3. 6. The list of officers selected as alternates will be published via the MMOA-3 "Board Updates and Information" webpage located at www.manpower.usmc.mil/boardupdatesandinformation, and then selecting the "Lieutenant Colonel Command Screening" link. The list will be posted alphabetically by full name, MOS, and current MCC. No action is required by officers on this list. If a command becomes vacant due to a declination or other circumstances, an approved alternate will be fleeted up from the prioritized alternate list. 7. Coordinating Instructions. 7.a. Primary selectees are to accept via email to their monitor listed in paragraph (8) NLT 31 August 2018. Those officers who decline command must submit their declination in writing (AA form) via the first general officer in their chain of command to HQMC (MMOA-3) NLT 7 September 2018. 7.b. Officers who decline command, unless otherwise approved by DC Manpower and Reserve Affairs due to extraordinary circumstances, will not be considered for any other command during the slating year and are ineligible for command screening on future boards. 7.c. Officers slated to command will schedule their attendance to the Cornerstone: Commandants Combined Commandership Program prior to, or shortly after, assuming command. The program consists of two courses conducted concurrently aboard MCB Quantico: a ten day commanders course and a 5 day spouses workshop. These courses are conducted semiannually. Officers slated for GCE commands are encouraged to attend the 3-day GCE Commanders Course prior to, or within the first six months of assuming command. The program incorporates a holistic approach to developing readiness through training, tactics, ethical and moral leadership, and decision making which enable maneuver warfare.
