MCBUL 1040. Fiscal Year 04 Officer Retention (Augmentation, Directed Lateral Moves, Extension, Return to ACDU) Board (ORB)
This MARADMIN announces the reinstatement of the competitive augmentation process for the FY04 Officer Retention Board, which will convene on January 6, 2004. The board will consider reserve ground officers on active duty for retention, augmentation, directed lateral moves, extensions, and return to active duty. Due to overages in junior officer numbers, the Marine Corps will competitively select which reserve officers remain on active duty versus transitioning to reserve forces, with a concurrent directed lateral move board addressing skill imbalances by moving officers from over-strength to under-strength MOSs.

1. DUE TO CURRENT OVERAGES IN THE NUMBER OF JUNIOR OFFICERS ON ACTIVE DUTY AND A REQUIREMENT TO MANAGE AND SHAPE THE OFFICER CORPS TO MEET FUTURE REQUIREMENTS (BY YEAR GROUP), THE MARINE CORPS WILL REINSTATE ITS COMPETITIVE AUGMENTATION PROCESS THAT WILL CONSIDER RESERVE OFFICERS FOR RETENTION ON ACTIVE DUTY.
