Replacement of Social Security Number (SSN) with Department of Defense (DoD) ID on Identification (ID) Tags
This MARADMIN directs the replacement of Social Security Numbers with Department of Defense ID Numbers (DODID/EDIPI) on all newly created Marine Corps identification tags, effective August 24, 2016. The change applies to both active duty and reserve Marines, but there is no requirement to reissue existing ID tags.

1. Purpose. To replace the SSN with the DODID (also known as the Electronic Data Interchange Personal Identifier (EDIPI)) on all newly created ID Tags per reference (a).<br> 2. Action. Effective the date of this MARADMIN, the DODID (10 digits, no hyphens) will replace the SSN on the third line of all newly created ID Tags. Chapter 7 of reference (b) pertains. There is no requirement to reissue ID tags to support this change.<br> 3. This MARADMIN serves as advance notification of forth coming change to reference (b).<br> 4. This MARADMIN is applicable to the Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve.<br> 5. Release authorized by SES J. W. Bearor, Assistant Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs.
