Reclassification of the Communications (06XX) Occupational Field Military Occupational Specialties in Support of the 06XX Force Modernization Strategy

This MARADMIN announces the reclassification of Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) within the Communications (06XX) Occupational Field as part of the 06XX Force Modernization Strategy. All Active and Reserve Component Marines with primary MOS designations of 061X, 065X, 2821, and 2823 will be reclassified to new MOS codes effective October 1, 2017, based on their training records, current skills, and unit recommendations. Commands must submit reclassification recommendations to their G-6s with commanding officer endorsement.

Issued: August 31, 2017
1. Headquarters Marine Corps Command, Control, Communications and Computers (HQMC C4) Strategic Planning (CS) coordinated closely with Total Force Structure Division (TFSD) and Manpower and Reserve Affairs (MRA).
2. HQMC C4 conducted a communications function review, capability group assessment, and a subsequent in-depth skillset analysis. The purpose of this working group was to posture the community to support emerging command and control requirements, adapt to rapid changes in technology and enable operations within a dynamic information environment. As a result of the analysis, the working group realigned skillsets, developed a new Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) structure, and derived a deliberate career progression combined with mandatory training requirements to provide a more robust professional force. The new MOS structure is reflected in the Tables of Organization found within the August 2017, Authorized Strength Report based upon references (c) and (b).
