Removal of Photographs from Consideration by Promotion Boards and Selection Processes Pertaining to Assignment, Training, Education, and Command

1.  Applicable law, implementing regulations and directives govern the type of information that can be provided to selection boards for consideration.  Only authorized information can be placed before, requested by, or reviewed by members of a selection board.
2.  Effective 1 September 2020, in accordance with reference (a), photographs are not authorized information for promotion boards and selection processes pertaining to assignment, training, education, and command.  This prohibition includes official photographs located in the Official Military Personnel File (OMPF), as well as photographs submitted in correspondence by individual Marines.
3.  This MARADMIN updates references (b) through (d) regarding the authorized use of an official photograph consistent with reference (a).  Specific paragraph changes to references (b) through (d), as well as other service directives pertaining to processes using official photographs, will be identified, announced in subsequent correspondence, and incorporated in their future revisions.
