National Domestic Violence Awareness Month
This MARADMIN recognizes October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and promotes two DoD campaigns: "What's Inside Matters" for victims and those noticing risk factors, and "Pause" for individuals recognizing their own harmful behaviors. It encourages commanders and Marines to participate in DVAM events, utilize Family Advocacy Programs (FAP), and access available resources including restricted and unrestricted reporting options for domestic abuse.
Issued: October 24, 2025
1. The Department of Defense (DoD) recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) every October. The DoD is promoting two themes in 2025. Campaign one is "What's Inside Matters" speaking to victims of abuse or those noticing risk factors for harmful behaviors by their partner. Campaign two is "Pause" speaking to those who recognize their own potentially harmful behaviors toward their partner and want help. 2. Commanders and all leaders can show support for DVAM by attending DVAM events and activities aboard Marine Corps installations throughout the month of October. These events promote available resources and raise awareness. Classes, workshops, and other supportive services that promote healthy relationship skills are available at local installations. 3. Family Advocacy Programs (FAP) at the installation level provide opportunities for Marines and their families to build and strengthen skills that support healthy relationships and social fitness. Leadership support of skill-building emphasizes Marine Corps Total Fitness and the message that domestic abuse is not tolerated in the Marine Corps. 4. For individuals who experience domestic abuse, there are two reporting options available, restricted and unrestricted. Restricted reporting does not include law enforcement and command involvement. Unrestricted reporting includes law enforcement and command involvement. Advocacy and counseling services are available for restricted and unrestricted options. For more information on reporting options, contact your installation FAP office. 5. All Marines and their family members can benefit from learning about the many resources available at the local installation and through Military OneSource. Commanders should encourage Marines and their families to access resources and services early and often to increase the likelihood of healthy relationship skills and social fitness. Military OneSource can be accessed at WWW.MILITARYONESOURCE.COM or by dialing 800-342-9647. Contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233. Other local resources include FAP, Community Counseling Program, Chaplains, and Military Provost Office. 6. This MARADMIN is applicable to the Active component, members of the Selected Marine Corps Reserve, Marines on Active-Duty Operational Support Orders, their family members, and, when authorized by law, other populations such as civilian personnel, and will expire one year from the date published. 7. Release authorized by Lieutenant General W. J. Bowers, Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs.
