Support of USMC Income Tax Preparation and Filing Assistance Program

This MARADMIN announces the Tax Year 2021 Income Tax Preparation and Filing Assistance Program for the Marine Corps community. Installation commanders are requested to provide maximum support by identifying personnel to serve as tax preparers by November 19, 2021, with IRS training beginning in December and Tax Centers operating from January through April. The program provides significant cost savings to service members, retirees, and their families by offering free tax preparation services.

1.  Per reference (a) and in coordination with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), this MARADMIN announces the Tax Year 2021 Income Tax Preparation and Filing Assistance Program. Request maximum support from installation commanders, in coordination with the cognizant Officer-in-Charge (OIC), Legal Services Support Team (LSST), in making Marines, facilities, and information technology assets available for operation of Marine Corps Tax Centers. Commanders should identify available personnel to serve as tax preparers to the OIC LSST no later than 19 November 2021.  IRS tax preparer training begins in December and Tax Centers operate from January through April.<br>
2.  The annual Tax Program has repeatedly proven to be a major quality of life benefit for our Marine Corps community.  Last year alone, Marine Corps Tax Centers prepared and filed over 30,000 Federal and state returns, saving service members, retirees, and their families over 3.9 million dollars in tax preparation and filing fees normally charged by commercial preparers.<br>
