Issued: September 22, 2020
1. I am pleased to congratulate the Marine Corps recipients of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 Secretary of the Navy's Energy Excellence Award in the Installation category. Per reference (a), Marine Corps Installations Command (MCICOM) performs an evaluation of each Installation's Annual Energy and Water Management Report (AEWMR) to assess program performance and to inform the Secretary of the Navy's (SECNAV) Energy Excellence Awards Program. The highest achieving submissions from the Large (greater than 500,000 MBTU energy consumption) and the Small (less than 500,000 MBTU) Installation categories were nominated for SECNAV consideration.
2. Per reference (b), SECNAV announced the following Marine Corps installations as FY2020 SECNAV Energy Excellence Award winners:
CATEGORY WINNER
Installation (Large) MCAGCC Twentynine Palms
Installation (Small) MCAS Miramar
3. In order to determine an installation's achievement level (Platinum, Gold, or Blue), the AEWMR assessed program performance in energy security planning in support of mission assurance, continuity of operations, and sustainment of critical installation services, in addition to the traditional review of intensity reduction and efficiency efforts. Meeting or exceeding these standards ensures Marine Corps installations can continue to provide the power our missions need to remain resilient during periods of disruption from commercial energy supplies.
4. The Platinum level indicates the highest standards in energy security program management and exceptional performance during the reporting period. The Gold level indicates outstanding energy security program management and excellent performance during the reporting period. The Blue level indicates the minimum standard for energy security program management and adequate performance.
