Update to the FY24 Military Occupational Specialty Manual and Requirement for PMOS 0629, 0639, and 0679

This MARADMIN updates the FY24 Military Occupational Specialty Manual by removing the requirement for Marines to attend career progression training courses (Transmissions Chief, Network Chief, and Data Systems Chief courses) to be awarded MOS 0629, 0639, or 0679. The change affects Staff Sergeants in the 06XX occupational field and is effective immediately, with MOS code conversions to be implemented on or about 1 January 2024.

1.  This is a DC M&RA (MP/MM) and DC I (IC4) coordinated message.<br>
2.  Due to continued force shaping and iterative adjustments to 06XX Occupational Field structure requirements, changes to existing training requirements are necessary. Reference (a) is hereby cancelled.<br>
3.  Effective immediately, attendance to career progression training is no longer a requirement to award military occupational specialty (MOS) 0629, 0639, or 0679 to the appropriate feeder MOSs of 0621, 0627,0631, and 0671.<br>
4.  The following course attendance requirements contained in reference (b) are waived:<br>
4.a.  MOS 0629 Requirements.<br>
4.a.1   Complete the Transmissions Chief Course (M09BNL1) at Marine Corps Communications-Electronics School, Twentynine Palms, CA.<br>
4.b.  MOS 0639 Requirements.<br>
4.b.1.  Complete the Network Chief Course (M0923X1) at Twentynine Palms, CA.<br>
4.c.  MOS 0679 Requirements.<br>
4.c.1.  Complete the Data Systems Chief Course (M0923W1) at Twentynine Palms, CA.<br>
4.d.  All other MOS requirements remain unchanged.<br>
5.  Marines are highly encouraged to attend skills progression training at first eligibility.  Gunnery Sergeant promotion selection boards will be provided information that highlights attendance to career progression training should be viewed as highly favorable.<br>
6.  Implementation of MOS conversion:<br>
6.a  Director, Manpower Management Division (DC M&RA (MM)).  Action will be accomplished by the DC M&RA (MM) on or about 1 January 2024 to change the MOS codes of those affected active component Staff Sergeants promoted prior to 1 January 2024.<br>
6.b  Director, Reserve Affairs Management Branch (DC, M&RA (RAM).  Action will be accomplished by the DC M&RA (RAM) on/about 1 January 2024 to change the MOS codes of those affected reserve component Staff Sergeants promoted prior 1 January 2024.<br>
6.c  Commanding Officers will ensure that no unit diary entries are submitted based on this update until after the 1 January 2024 batch changes performed by DC M&RA (MM and RAM). Commanding Officers are responsible for awarding appropriate career progression MOS to Marines promoted to Staff Sergeant on/after 1 January 2024.<br>
7.  This MARADMIN is applicable to the total force.<br>
