Changes to the Urinalysis Sample Submission Process
This MARADMIN announces changes to the urinalysis sample submission process due to the closure of Navy Drug Screening Laboratory (NDSL) San Diego on February 1, 2017. Marine Corps units and commands that currently submit samples to NDSL San Diego must redirect them to NDSL Great Lakes effective January 1, 2017, and all steroid testing samples must be sent to NDSL Great Lakes starting December 1, 2016.

1. Background. This MARADMIN announces the disestablishment of Navy Drug Screening Laboratory (NDSL) San Diego on February 1, 2017. Closure of NDSL San Diego necessitates the following changes to the process Marine Corps units and commands use to submit urinalysis samples for testing:<br> A. Effective January 1, 2017, all Marine Corps units and commands that currently submit urinalysis samples to NDSL San Diego will start sending their samples to NDSL Great Lakes for testing. This re-direction of urinalysis samples applies only to Marine Corps units and commands that currently send their samples to NDSL San Diego.<br> B. Effective December 1, 2016, NDSL Great Lakes will start facilitating the testing of urinalysis samples for steroids. Marine Corps units and commands submitting urinalysis samples for steroid testing must now send their samples to NDSL Great Lakes for processing. In addition, specimen samples submitted for steroid testing must now contain 120 milliliters (mls). Units and commands submitting steroid samples can provide the 120mls in two 60mls specimen bottles. The two 60mls samples should be from the same void, if possible. Steroid sample collection will continue to follow the procedures and documentation requirements identified in Reference A.<br> 2. Marine Corps units and commands should mail urinalysis and steroid testing samples to this address: Commanding Officer, Navy Drug Screening Laboratory, 2500 Rodgers Street, Building 5501, Great Lakes, Illinois 60088-2952.<br> 3. Installation Drug Demand Reduction Coordinators can contact the POC for additional information.<br> 4. This MARADMIN is cancelled when incorporated into reference (A).<br> 5.
