FY23 Marine Attaché Selection Board Results

This MARADMIN announces the results of the FY23 Marine Attaché Selection Board, which selected 21 Marines as primary candidates and 20 as alternates for duty with the Defense Attaché Service reporting in FY23. The board reviewed 84 qualified applicants and selected active duty officers, enlisted Marines, and reserve component officers for assignments to various embassies worldwide, with the Secretary of the Navy approving the nominations for final Defense Intelligence Agency approval.

1.  On 28 August 2021, the Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (DC, M&RA) convened the FY23 Marine Attaché (MARA) Selection Board to select Marines as primary candidates and identify alternates for duty with the Defense Attaché Service (DAS) to report in FY23.  The Secretary of the Navy has approved the list of Marines herein and nominated them to the Defense Intelligence Agency for final approval.<br>
2.  The Marine Corps is committed to ensuring the most professional representation of our service's and nation's interests abroad in these high-visibility, high-impact posts.  To reinforce our continued success, the board considered the packages of 84 qualified applicants.  The board selected 21 Marines as primary candidates and identified 20 Marines as alternates.  Demonstrated leadership and the potential to operate effectively in a foreign, independent duty environment were among the factors considered in the selection process.<br>

4.  No later than two calendar weeks from the release date of this MARADMIN all selected Marines must:<br>
4.a.  Contact their primary MOS monitor to communicate acceptance of their assignment and receive further guidance.<br>
4.b.  Active component selectees are instructed to contact Capt Matthew Pope, HQMC Marine Attaché Program Manager, to communicate acceptance of assignment and receive further guidance.<br>
4.c.  Reserve component selectees are instructed to contact DCI RLO to communicate acceptance of assignment and receive further guidance.<br>
5.  Declinations.  Selected Marines can submit a request for declination with command endorsement from the first O-6 commander in their chain of command; however, once a Marine accepts their selection and receives orders they are subject to the regulations in the Separations Manual (ref e).<br>
6.  Selected Marines can expect Permanent Change of Station orders for training in the National Capital Region.  Training start dates are dependent upon the assigned country and corresponding training requirements but can begin as early as January 2022.  Selected officers with competing service requirements which could potentially delay their availability for training must notify their primary MOS monitor in their initial correspondence.<br>
7.  A limited portion of training during the Joint Military Attaché School (JMAS) is available to the spouses of selected officers.  Although spouse attendance is not required, it is highly recommended and does not incur any additional cost to the service member.  Language training is available to the spouse for most billets at the request of the selected officer.  In addition to training, a security clearance will be submitted for the spouse.<br>
8.  Spouses must be naturalized U.S. citizens prior to the service member attending JMAS.<br>
9.  Service members must complete a Counter Intelligence Polygraph examination prior to attending JMAS.  This will be coordinated through Marine Corps Intelligence Activity.<br>
